Advisors to owners of closely held businesses

Rudy & Associates works hand in hand with owners of mid-market companies on the challenges of scaling, revenue growth, and productivity. Every advisor here has run a family business and led it through good economies and bad ones.

The firm is led by Lewis Rudy in Louisville, Kentucky.

What we do

Lewis works with business owners and their teams to build strong, intentional growth. Most engagements start with the same question: why isn't profit keeping up with the effort going into the business? The work is to identify the root causes of margin compression and underperformance, then fix them at the source rather than patching symptoms.

That usually means working inside the business alongside the owner and the management team, not advising from a distance. Lewis is direct. Clients hear what he actually thinks, and the recommendations always come with a plan to act on them.

He also facilitates several CEO and senior leadership roundtables, along with educational programs for owners and their teams.

Circumstance or design?

An idea that runs through all of Lewis's work: business failures, losses, and misses are rarely a matter of circumstance. They are almost always a matter of design. When a problem gets treated as bad luck, the business builds a process to cope with it, and over time that workaround becomes part of how the company operates. The cost stays, year after year.

A few familiar versions of this:

None of these fix themselves. They take deliberate effort from the owner, and usually an outside set of eyes. That redesign is the work Lewis does.

Lewis Rudy, Founder and President of Rudy & Associates

About Lewis

Lewis Rudy is the founder and president of Rudy & Associates. Four months into working in his family's business, the company suddenly lost one of its two partners, who was also his mentor. Lewis was thrown into a daily fight to keep the business alive, and his first three years felt like a decade.

The business survived because everyone in it was pushed to bring ideas to their own roles. It went on to thrive, and a decade later Lewis sold it on his own terms. That experience shaped how he works with every client since. He has worked with dozens of regional, national, and international companies, and the results have often been triple-digit improvements in profit from one year to the next.

"I have always hated to lose more than I enjoyed winning. My team says I have an undiagnosed urgency called CDD, constant directed dissatisfaction. It simply means I have a highly focused, passionate drive to see our clients achieve their why."
